At the age of ten, Sophie is already a talented young gymnast. When Sophie¹s father, Richard, undergoes emergency heart surgery, Sophie is very distressed and determines to become a doctor. However, Sophie is not doing very well at school and her mother notices that she uses every trick in the book to avoid going to school.

Even when she is at school, Sophie avoids the periodic reading tests like the plague using inventive excuses to avoid doing them but one day she does have a reading test and it is apparent that her reading ability is far behind the rest of the class. The teacher tells her she must try harder if she really wants to be a doctor.
